AN ANALYSIS OF STUDENTS’ ERROR IN WRITING NARRATIVE TEXT AT THE TENTH GRADE STUDENTS OF MAN CIMAHI
English becomes one of the most important languages of education for students in Indonesia and writing is one of four skills which are taught in the school. Learning English is different from learning Indonesian language, students who learn English may produce many errors in their writing. The objectives of this result are to identify kinds of error made by students when writing narrative text and to know why the students madernerrors when writing narrative text. The subjects of this research were 20 of tenth grade students of MAN Cimahi. The writer used a descriptive qualitative method. To collect data the writer used writing test, questionnaires and interview. The collected data was identified and analyzed based on the types of error using Dulay’s theory. The result ofrnthis research based on the surface taxonomy, shows that the students make errors in the form of omission 19 errors (4.68%), addition 86 errors (21.19%), misformation 275 errorsrn(67.73%), misordering 26 errors (6.40%) and total error is 406 errors. The reasons why they made errors because the students are lack of English grammatical rules mastery andrnthe difference rules between Indonesian and English language.
