An Analysis of Factors Affecting Language Choice and Language Attitude of Respondent: A Study of Sociolinguistics
ABSTRACTrnrn rnrnDue to the fact that people conduct various deliberate choice in producing language, this study explores unusual linguistic choice employed by a sixth grade of elementary school girl as well as elaborates the language attitude as a contributing factor affecting her linguistics choice. hence, this reaserch is aimed to find out the factors influencing respondent language choice and to investigate the language attitude that the respondent has in selecting language. Qualitative research methods particularly case atudy research was used to obtain the result. The data were collected by conducting interview, indirect observation, and questionnaire towards the reasearch participant. In investigating the first reasearch questions, this study purposely involvesdomain factors analysis theory which says that linguistics choice is affected by four domain factors; setting and situation, participant of interaction, topic of conversation and interactional function. the findings show that the linguistics choice of respondent are affected by situational factors; family and school, participant of interaction factors; parents, siblings, friends, and teacher, topic of conversation and interaction function; informing, discussing and processing subjects learning. moreover, the finding also show that the respondent has positive language attitude towards English as her dominant language choice which indicated that it is an influencing factor correlated to her language maintenance, language competence and language choice.rnrn rnrnkeywords: language choice, language attitude
