The correlation between students' achievement in vocabulary and reading comprehension
The background of this research is that most student have difficulties in understanding words or vacabulary. Vocabulary is one important aspect in learning a foreign lnguage. Because of the limited vocabulary,the learnersrnthe second grade students of SMA NEGERI 1 CIPATAT. This research aimedrnin vocabulary and reading comprehension.The type of this research is quantitative design with correlation method. The instument used is objective test, which consists 20 items multiple choice for reading test and 20 items matching item for vocabulary test.The population of this research is second grade students of IPS at SMA NEGERI 1 CIPATAT, whole student of IPS are 50 and sample of this research are 30 student from IPSII. Vocabulary mastery as variable (X) and reading comprehension as vaiable (Y) were analyzed by using One Sample Kolmogrov Smirnove Test of SPSS. The result of this research Show that there is normal distribution it can be seen from the result of significant number of vocabulary test is higher than level of significant ( 0.347rnrn> 0.05 ) and significant number of reading higher than level of significantrn(0.271 > 0.05 ). And this research is positive correlation we found that vocabulary score is 1 and reading score is 0.576 table corelation show that reading score higher than the level of significant ( 0.576 > 0.05 ), avaregerncomprehension. By the value of correlation 0.567 it can be shown in the indexes of the correlation that is 0.40 up to 0.59.
