Improving students' reading comprehension technique using jigsaw technique
Reading is one of four language skills which have to be mastered, so it is important for the teacher to find an appropriate teaching method in teaching reading comprehension. Further more, reading comprehension is included in Ujian Nasional (National Examination) in Junior High School and Senior High School level. Based on the problems, the writer will find out an appropriate method in conducting this research. The research uses quantitative approach with quasi experimental method. The instrument is pre test and post test which given to both experiment and control class. The population is 328 8th grade students of SMP MUTIARA 4 Bandung and the sample is 35 students of VIII D as experiment class and 35 students of VIII E as control class. The data analysis is computed by IBM SPSS Ver.16 using Mann Whitney U test with 0.05 level of significance. The test result shows that the score is 0.024 which less than 0.05 (0.024 < 0.05). Based on the data, it can be concluded thatnull hypothesis is rejected and alternative hypothesis is accepted.
