(Skripsi) POSITIVE POLITENESS FACES IN OPRAH WINFREY TALK SHOW PROGRAMS ‘SUPERSOUL SUNDAY’
The aims of this research is to search the type of positive politeness strategy that happened from the utterance in Oprah Winfrey Talk Show Programs SuperSoul Sunday, to identify what is the influenced factor of the positive politeness in the talk show, to find the most used strategy of positive politeness and influence factors that exist. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method. The source of the data is taken from the talk show programs entitled “SuperSoul Sunday Episode 912: Malcolm Gladwell”. To achieve the aims of the research, the data are analyzed using Brown and Levinson theory to describe the type of positive politeness strategy and the factor influences in each utterances. The research shows that most data found are Exaggerating, Using In-group Identity Markers, Avoiding Disagreement, and Including Both Speaker and Hearer in the Activity with each has 4 datum or equivalence with (13,3%). Then, the strategy of Joking, Asserting or Presupposing Knowledge of and Concerning for Hearer’s Wants, Assuming or Asserting Reciprocity, and Giving Gifts to Hearer which do not exist (0%). Besides that, the factor that influenced most that includes in Payoff is Going on record which has 12 datum or equivalence with (40%) and also the factor that includes in Relevant Circumstances is Social distance which has 13 datum or equivalence with (43%).
