The study aims to determine the meaning of the lyrics so that listeners will understand the meaning of the song more easily. The subject of this study is lexical and contextual meanings in song lyrics Ed Sheeran. This lexical and contextual meaning uses the theory of Alan Cruse. The problem of this research is: (1) What is lexical meaning on the Ed Sheeran song lyrics? (2) What is the contextual meaning of Ed Sheeran song lyrics? How do both lexical and contextual meaning occur in Ed Sheeran song lyrics? The study used qualitative research methods by analyzing and interpreting the research objects of the Ed Sheeran song lyrics. The step to obtain the data by collecting song lyrics from internet related to semantics. The writer took five songs from different albums and found 20 data. The writer hopes this research will be useful for other research that would like to know more about lexical and contextual meanings.
