This research studies about telic and atelic in a song lyrics by Ed Sheeran. Thernaims of this study are to recognize the semantic purposes of lyrics on the song byrnEd Sheeran. To achieve the aims of the study, the writer uses Saeed‘s theory ofrntelic and atelic. Out of 8 songs that the writer analysed from Ed Sheeran‘s song,rnthe writer found that it has same amount of telic and atelic which is 16 each bothrnof telic and atelic on it. The dominating telic happened to be in the song ―Perfect‖,rnwhereas the atelic also happened to be dominating in the song ―Perfect‖ as well.rnThe minority of telic are on the song ―Shape of you‖, ―Give me love‖ and ―One‖rnwhich only counted 0. Whereas the minority of atelic is only on the song ―Dive‖rnwith the result of 0. In this study, the writer found that in the song of Ed Sheeranrndoesn‘t always have an telic and atelic in the specific 8 songs that has beenrnanalysed by the writer.There are 32 in total of telic and atelic in the particular 8rnsongs that writer analyzed. The results are ―Perfect‖ with 7 telic and 5 atelic,rn―Thinking out loud‖ with 1 telic and 4 atelic, ―Shape of you‖ with 0 telic and 1rnatelic, ―Photograph‖ with 1 telic and 1 atelic, ―Happier‖ with 2 telic and 2 atelic,rn―Dive‖ with 4 telic and 0 atelic, ―Give Me Love‖ with 0 telic and 3 atelic, lastlyrn―One‖ with 0 telic and 1 atelic. As it mentioned before the results has the samernamount of telic and atelic in total with 16 telic and 16 atelic in the 8 songs thatrnwriter analysed.
