The Comparison Between Pair Work & Group Work in Teaching Reading at Junior High School
The students of junior high school are less interested in reading especially reading in English. This fact is caused by many factors. First, the students do not know the importance of reading. Second, audiovisual which is used not interesting. Third, the students is still confused to analyze and comprehend the meaning of every sentence especially complex sentence. It is important for teacher to apply methods in teaching reading comprehension to make the teaching learning process run well. The research examined group work and pair work . The aims of this research are to find out the effectiveness of pair work and group work in teaching readingrncomprehension of second year students of SMP KP 2 Majalaya. The research method was quantitative research, or more specifically the quasi experimental design with the pretest-posttest, and the treatment to know there any different between the control group that use pair work and experimental group that use group work design which consist of two classes (60 students) as the sample and test as the instrument. The result of the data analysis showed that the descriptive test of mean score of experimental group was 13.17, the mean of control group was 6.10. The normality data is normal because of experimental group was 0.245 is bigger than 0.05 and of control group 0.225 is bigger than 0.05 and the t-test was 0.601. In addition the asymp sig (2-tailed) was 0.000 is smaller than 0.05 Inrnother words there was a significant improvement in students reading ability after being taught by using Pair work and Group work technique. So, the alternativernhypothesis is Group work is more effective in increasing students reading skill than pair work
