PENGARUH PIGMENTASI GCC (GROUND CALCIUM CARBONATE) PADA LARUTAN SURFACE SIZING TERHADAP SIFAT PERMUKAAN DAN KUALITAS CETAK PADA KERTAS TULIS CETAK

Sifat permukaan dan kualitas cetak yang baik merupakan parameter utama yang harus dimiliki oleh kertas tulis cetak. Untuk itu, digunakan surface sizing pada kertas yang bertujuan untuk membatasi penetrasi cairan ke dalam kertas sehingga penggunaan tinta pada kertas tidak mudah menyebar dan mempertahankan kualitas warna tinta pada saat dicetak. Sebagai upaya memperbaiki sifat permukaan dan kualitas cetak tersebut, maka penelitian ini memanfaatkan pigmen GCC (Ground Calcium Carbonate) yang ditambahkan pada larutan surface sizing. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dosis penggunaan GCC yang baik, pengaruh penambahan insolubilizer, serta total solid akhir larutan yang sesuai. Penelitian tahap pertama yaitu memvariasikan dosis GCC sebesar 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, dan 80% terhadap berat kering starch. Kemudian, dari masing-masing larutan tersebut divariasikan dengan ada dan tidaknya penambahan insolubilizer. Dosis penggunaan GCC terbaik yang diperoleh dari penelitian tahap pertama tersebut dipilih untuk dilakukan variasi total solid akhir larutan untuk penelitian tahap kedua. Total solid divariasikan sebesar 8%, 10%, 12%, 14%, dan 16%. Berdasarkan percobaan yang telah dilakukan dengan membuat sampel handsheet yang telah diaplikasikan pigmentasi surface sizing dan pengujian sifat permukaan serta kualitas cetak pada handsheet, dapat diketahui bahwa pigmen GCC dapat memperbaiki sifat permukaan dan kualitas cetak pada kertas tulis cetak dengan penambahan GCC sebanyak 60% terhadap berat kering starch, larutan pigmentasi lebih baik dengan penambahan insolubilizer, serta membuat total solid akhir larutan sebesar 16%.rnrnSurface properties and good print quality are the main parameters that must be owned by printed paper. For this reason, surface sizing is used on paper which aims to limit the penetration of liquid into the paper so that the use of ink on paper is not easy to spread and maintain the quality of the ink color when printed. In an effort to improve the surface properties and print quality, this study utilizes GCC (Ground Calcium Carbonate) added to surface sizing solution. This study aims to determine the dose of good use of GCC, the effect of adding insolubilizer, and the final total solid solution that is suitable. The first stage of research is to vary the dose of GCC by 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, and 80% of the dry weight of starch. Then, from each solution it was varied by the presence and absence of the addition of insolubilizer. The best dose of GCC obtained from the first phase of the study was chosen to be carried out in the variation of the final total solid solution for the second phase of the study. Total solids varied by 8%, 10%, 12%, 14%, and 16%. Based on the experiments that have been done by making a handsheet sample that has been applied to surface sizing pigmentation and testing the surface properties and print quality on the handsheet, it can be seen that the GCC can improve the surface properties and print quality on printed paper with the addition of GCC as much as 60% of the dry weight of starch, pigmentation solution is better with the addition of insolubilizer, and makes the final total solid solution by 16%.,
